My Thoughts On Personal Branding
How to tap into this unique opportunity
If anyone had mentioned the words “personal branding” to me 5 years ago, I would have cringed.
“Personal branding? I am a highly educated professional!!”
So funny how I see things so differently now.
I used to be a very “typical” accountant that would hide in spreadsheets for 8+ hours a day with my headphones.
Never wanted to go into the office.
Never wanted to socialize that much with anyone.
I am a detailed oriented person that is pretty good with numbers and spreadsheets.
Not exceptional by any means, but good enough to be an auditor and pass CPA exams.
I’m also a very analytical thinker when it comes to processes and operations.
So how did we go from THERE, to here?
Through a very long personal development + personal branding journey, I have come to learn that I am actually quite articulate - both in written and verbal format.
And that’s exactly what happens when you try new things.
You discover parts about you that you never knew.
The other day, someone told me that they are envious of me because they don’t possess the “skill” to be a content creator.
I told him to go look at one of my original Youtube videos.
Honestly, all skills are learnable.
And you can hire for your weaknesses.
To this day, I still don’t think I have the “skill” to be a big Instagram girl.
So for a long time I just hid from posting on IG.
I hired an agency a while back but it still wasn’t to the quality that I wanted.
So this is what I did recently.
I found a young girl to help me design my IG feed.
I also connected with young kids that gave me feedback on how to improve my short form so I can go viral (They’re really good at this sort of stuff).
Then I hired a professional filmmaker to help me script reels and short form content.
So in 6 months from now, I hope my IG feed and reels will look better.
Going back to that person above, I told him the “skill” he is mentioning is that I am willing to try and figure out how to overcome my weaknesses.
That’s it. No unique edge.
And because I am willing to try, my whole world continues to expand into new horizons.
So some people call this “personal branding” but I call this “personal development”
That’s it for my thoughts today.
P.S. Here’s a photo of one of my old work spaces... I dug it up for jokes. The strangest thing is why I was drinking a tall sized coffee that day, rather than a grande.
