People need proof

Once you become a master at something, you think that the thing is so obvious that you don’t need to explain yourself.

When you’re trying to establish yourself as an authority in a niche using content, remember this.

People. Need. Proof.

They need proof before they trust you.

Your content is an experience that provides both information and entertainment such that when someone is ready to buy, you are the clear and obvious solution to their problems.

On social media, proof is showcased in a few ways:

  • Storytelling

  • Technical expertise

  • You are someone who understands your ICP’s frustrations, pain points, and problems

  • You repeat #1-3 consistently and over and over again

If you are a CPA, it is not enough to simply say “hello I am a CPA”.

If you teach people how to make money online, it is not enough to simply say “hello I can teach you how to make money online”

These statements do not build trust from anyone about anything.

The average person doesn’t even know what CPA’s are or what they do.

The average person doesn’t even trust or believe that you can make money online.

You have to tell your story (protagonist, antagonist, climax, etc)

You have to explain step. by. step. what. you. know. repeatedly. on. end even if it feels painful to do so sometimes.

You have to show that you understand the thought process, pain points, and frustrations of your ideal viewer and ideal client.

You have to over-deliver on proof and value.

By the way - ideal viewer and ideal client aren’t the exact same things.

One is for getting impressions, the other is for closing sales.

If you want to have clients hand you their credit cards with no questions asked, give them so much proof that they they have no choice but to see you as the #1 expert.

Even though it feels annoying to be the Hermione Granger of your niche… this is how you make money online as a service provider.

This is how authority is built online.

That is the power of inbound marketing.

Remember, people need proof.
