The Rat Race Trap
How To Escape For Good
One of my favourite TV shows is Schitt’s Creek.
It’s a hilarious show and they sweeped the Emmys in 2020.
It’s a comedy about an extremely wealthy family that loses all their wealth overnight and are forced to learn how to be “normal people”.
In a world where most people dream of financial freedom, they do the complete opposite.
Because they were so out of touch with reality, they experienced personal growth and fulfillment by learning how to get jobs and work for 8 hours a day.
David gets his first job at a store called the Blouse Barn, which was a significant point to his character arc because he learns the value of hard work.
But yeah - it’s a TV show for a reason.
Does this sound like you?
Commuting to work every day
Being stuck in traffic for 30-60 minutes
Not being able to "clock out” until 5pm
Trading 5/7 days of your life for 2 days off
Wondering if the cycle might never end
I’ve been there before too.
I posted a video last week about money habits that keep people stuck in this trap. I encourage you to watch it if you have time.
But here is a quick paraphrase:
A career that does not allow you to earn enough
The financial confidence to be on your own
Income bearing assets, or lack thereof
Wearing your wealth and/or driving your wealth
Long term renting and leasing cars
Lifestyle creep
Not prioritizing physical and mental health
